Hard to believe, but 2017 is almost over. Now that you think about it, maybe that’s a good thing.
Anyway, as we’re winding down, preparing for the new year and its bounty, it’s been hard to settle in at the back of the cave, despite cold temperatures and bleak skies here in Central Virginia. Clients both new and existing are pulling together so many cool projects that the excitement is overpowering those winter blahs. We can’t tell you about some of them yet, but here’s a taste of one.

Dead, Insane, or in Jail: A CEDU Memoir is the first book in Zack Bonnie’s nonfiction series. Book two is coming early in 2018.
Zack Bonnie, author of Dead, Insane, or in Jail: A CEDU Memoir, is preparing, through his company Not With The Program, to release book two in his memoir series about the years he spent at a “Troubled Teen” facility in the wilds of Northern Idaho in the late 80s. The new book, Dead, Insane, or in Jail: Overwritten, picks up where the first one left off, when the sheriff and the bounty hunter escort Zack back to Rocky Mountain Academy, six weeks after his escape. This time, Zack changes his tactics and stops overtly opposing the authoritarian program. The school increases all kinds of pressure on the teenagers in its custody, and some kids crumble. Others become “look-goods” who’ll do anything for approval. And young Zack may be kidding himself that he can remain immune to the coercive persuasion and thought control that permeate the place.
It’s an involving story, and Zack’s dark sense of humor is even more apparent than in A CEDU Memoir. Illustrated once again by the incomparable Jonathan Weiner, Overwritten promises to be a worthy sequel to the Amazon bestseller A CEDU Memoir.

And if you want a sense of the impact his first book has had on former Troubled Teens, take a look at the Amazon reviews, showing how helpful Zack’s writing is to the people who experienced Troubled Teen programs. Many of the reviewers have said how relieved they are to finally have a way to explain to their loved ones what happens in those places.
So happy that Chenille Books has had the chance to continue to work together with Zack on the second book by this talented and inventive author. Stay tuned for Overwritten‘s launch in 2018!
