Want some top-secret intel and support for your writing project? Look no further.
This link isn’t public – it’s just for readers of the handbook, FLOAT • Becoming Unstuck for Writers. In your free download (click here) you get a bonus FLOAT Toolkit.
In it, you’ll receive a Tools Preview, complete with two quizzes to help you discern the Connectedness and Impact keys that will work well for your next FLOAT session.
The Toolkit also contains two audio tours – one investigating the foundations of the FLOAT Approach, and a second audio that gives you a guided process for working through a FLOAT session on your own.
Wait – there’s more…You also get a Matrix of every Tool in the book, organized both by Connectedness and Impact. Want a Tool that’s just right for a moment when you’re feeling like Low Impact and Medium Connectedness will do the job? We’ve got that. It’s all laid out for you in the Matrix.
Here’s a quick refresher about how the FLOAT Approach works. The Acronym FLOAT stands for this 5-step sequence:
Focus | Listen | Open | Analyze | Tool
Focus. This is where the process begins. Focus on your stuckness. What’s it like? How does it feel? Identify one question you want to ask yourself. Ask it.
Listen. It’s as though you’re asking your wise self for ideas and insight. Listen to whatever surfaces for you. It may come in waves. You may hear some snarky comments. Let them be. Then listen a little more for a subtler response behind the noise.
Open. Shift gears and let go a little bit. Don’t think too much. Open yourself to the responses that surfaced when you listened. Don’t judge. As you notice what comes out, remain open to it. Just be with the material that you provided yourself.
Analyze. This step puts you back into thinking mode. You are getting ready to pick a FLOAT tool to use.
Connectedness. First look at connectedness. Where are you at the moment in the connectedness continuum? Feeling overconnected and overwhelmed? Coming from a place of isolation and the absence of connection? Somewhere in the middle?
Impact. To help you pick your level of impact you want your selected tool to offer, ask yourself this question “How much risk can I tolerate at this moment?”
Tool. Bearing in mind the insight or ideas you receive in the Open step and your connectedness and impact tolerance from the Analyze step, determine one FLOAT tool you will use to become unstuck. Browse through the Tools in the book to find one that looks good for now.
